Battle Rock Charter School is located in the beautiful McElmo Canyon approximately 14 miles west of Cortez. The school has been in continuous operation since 1915 and has been a charter school since 1994. The school is one of only four one-room schoolhouses still in operation in Colorado and one of only a few hundred nationwide. Battle Rock Charter School offers children a unique, rural educational experience that utilizes the surrounding historical, agricultural and natural resources to teach rigorous, standards-based curriculum.
• Battle Rock Charter School is a FREE & PUBLIC school of choice. • Program ranges from kindergarten through 6th grade. • Anyone can enroll in Battle Rock regardless of their area of residence. • Battle Rock offers a standards-based curricular program with an emphasis in environmental and agricultural sciences. • The school provides full bus service for both Cortez and Aneth residents.
